Mamie Lou Posey, an International Mission Board missionary emeritus who shared the gospel in the Philippines, died Aug. 21, 2026. She was 96.
Mamie Lou was born May 16, 1930, in Lucedale, Mississippi, to the late Henry Littleton Eubanks and Myrtis Eloise Brannan Eubanks. She graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama, and received the Bachelor of Arts from Blue Mountain (Mississippi) College (now Blue Mountain Christian University), and the Master of Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas.
During college, Mamie Lou spent her summers as a student summer missionary for the Home Mission Board (now North American Mission Board) in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. While seeking missionary appointment, Mamie Lou recalled her lifelong conviction that God would use her in full-time Christian service. She wrote, “Summer mission work also strengthened the conviction that God wanted to use my life on the foreign mission field.”
In seminary, she met Earl Posey. Earl and Mamie Lou were married on Sept. 19, 1953. Two weeks later, they moved to the community of Chalkville, Alabama, where Earl became pastor of the New Prospect Baptist Church. During this time, Mamie Lou taught sixth grade in the Trussville, Alabama, public schools.
While seeking missionary appointment she wrote, “Immediately after we began our work here, we also began to plan for the Lottie Moon Offering and foreign mission emphasis. … In my own heart I knew, however, that such efforts as I had made to lay missions upon the hearts of our people, though extremely important, would never be sufficient, for God’s plan would never be fulfilled in my life until I went. More and more I prayed privately that God would speak to Earl.”
The following May, two missionary families from Brazil and Chile visited their church and home within a period of two weeks. Shortly after, Earl expressed to Mamie Lou his certainty that God was calling them to the foreign mission field. Mamie Lou wrote, “This was one of the happiest moments of my entire life.”
In 1956, the International Mission Board appointed Earl and Mamie Lou missionaries to the Philippines, where they served for more than three decades. Mamie Lou filled several roles, including seminary professor, student worker and church planter. Later, they established a student center to support and mentor college students.
Mamie Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jesse Earl Posey.
She is survived by her children, Darryl Clark Posey and Trini Cobb; and eight grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Aug. 26 at Mobile Memorial Gardens, in Mobile, Alabama.
