5 Ways Christian Moms Can Raise Resilient Kids This School Year

The start of a new school year brings all the emotions — for our kids and for us moms, too. Most of us try our very best to help ease the transition: we move bedtime up earlier a week or two before the first day, we obsess over the supply list, meet their teachers, and pray that this year will be the best year (in fairness, we pray that prayer every year). But no matter how carefully we prepare them, there are some things we simply can’t control. We can’t brave the playground with them. We can’t control the popularity hierarchy, make their peers invite them to the lunch table, or determine how they’ll feel about their teachers. We can’t choose their friends — although, if we’re honest, some of us certainly try — and we can’t protect them from every disappointment they’ll face. And that is not a bad thing! We help children thrive not by controlling every outcome, but by giving them the faith, relationships, and practical tools they need to face challenges well. In fact, part of our job as moms is not to prevent every difficulty our children will encounter, but to help them develop the faith and resilience to face whatever the school year brings.❀ ✿✿ ❀Key PointsA new school year gives moms an opportunity to reset family rhythms, priorities, and faith-building habits.Helping children set goals gives them ownership of the year ahead and opens the door for ongoing conversations.Simple prayer rhythms and real-life Scripture connections help kids bring school challenges, friendships, and fears to God.Failure can become a growth opportunity when children learn perseverance, resilience, and dependence on God.Moms and children thrive best in trusted community, where support, encouragement, hospitality, and shared faith are practiced together.Through my work with moms in my community, my church, the employee resource group I lead at Compassion International, and mothers I’ve had the privilege of meeting around the world, I’m constantly reminded that we have so much more in common than we realize. Our circumstances may look different, but so many of our worries are the same: Will my child make good friends? Will they do well in school? Will they find their place? Will they become everything God created them to be?And beneath all those questions lies the same hope shared by moms everywhere: that our children will be healthy, happy, secure, whole, and equipped to thrive.Walking alongside so many mothers, and through my own experience, I’ve learned that raising resilient, faith-filled kids isn’t about doing more. It’s about being intentional with what matters most: nurturing their faith, strengthening their relationships, and helping them learn to bounce back from adversity. Here are five practical ways to do that this school year.Photo Credit: ©Unsplash/javier trueba | Written by Crystal Wilson | iBelieve.com | Read full story at Read More
