Suffer the Little Children

There was a big celebration in the office of the Governor of Massachusetts recently. Above is a photo of the event. Over a dozen very happy ladies stand around the desk of Governor Maura Healey for a bill-signing ceremony.

From the smiles and applause, it appears the new law must be a great thing for Massachusetts and particularly for women. Perhaps it was tax relief for working families or a new law to protect women’s sports. I should have known better. It was a new death-sentence law aimed at more defenseless unborn babies.

Governor Healey is on the far left of the American political spectrum. She and the women around her are celebrating Massachusetts becoming the tenth state to allow abortions right up to the second before a baby emerges from the womb and takes her first breath. All ten states have Democrat governors and Democrat-controlled state legislatures. This isn’t surprising. Abortion-on-demand is a key priority of the national Democrat Party.

Massachusetts law, up until that moment, had restrictions on abortions after twenty-four weeks or six months of pregnancy. Abortions after that point were unlawful unless the mother’s life or health was at risk or the unborn child was diagnosed with a fatal birth defect—a tragic situation for the family.

This new law that Governor Healey and the pro-abortion advocates in the photo are celebrating goes even further. It permits destroying the unborn child during all nine months of pregnancy for any and all reasons. All that is required is for a physician to say it is his “professional judgment” that performing the abortion is necessary. There are plenty of physicians working at Planned Parenthood abortion centers who will be willing to reach such a “judgment.” Of course, many of these abortions will also be paid for with tax money.

Not everyone in Massachusetts is celebrating this barbaric law. It was passed quickly without much of the public being aware that it was on the agenda. The vote in the state House of Representatives was 119-33, mostly along party lines. However, nine House Democrats did “break ranks” and voted with Republicans against the abortion up until birth law.
Of course, the overwhelming majority of abortions in America are not late-term. The American people strongly oppose abortions after viability. Western European countries often limit elective abortions to the first trimester only.

Dr. James Dobson was strongly committed to the sanctity of life throughout his entire career. All of us at JDFI share his commitment to defending innocent preborn life. We believe life begins at conception. Biology supports our view. We want all of our children to be welcomed into the world, have a “seat at the table,” and be part of the American family. All have been made in the image of God and deserve to be protected by the law and our Declaration of Independence. The Declaration says we are all created equal and endowed by our Creator with certain rights, including the right to life. It is the first right mentioned. Without the right to life the other rights “die,” too.

Many important issues are at stake this November as we vote to elect all 435 members of the House of Representatives, thirty-five senators, and thirty-nine governors. Vote pro-life!
